Human Revolution

Continuing in the tradition of the great folk artists and writers before him, Human sings the songs of the American heart and soul. Backed by The Human Revolution, an impressive rotating cast of master musicians, Human has been leading the way for politically, socially, and ecologically charged performers and songwriters for almost a decade. Past members of the lineup have included: Roger Fritz (Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynn), Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, Crosby Stills and Nash, CPR), Donny “Divino” Smith (Willie Nelson), “Uncle” Don Lopez (Willie Nelson, Willie K), Gene Parsons (The Byrds, Steven Bates Band), David Mayfield (Andy Griggs, Cadillac Sky), Jessica Lea Mayfield, Alice Di Micele, Kailen Yong (Boulder Acoustic Society) and MC Radioactive (Spearhead) to name a few. Their performances tie in contemporary themes with nods to historical events, and boast an eclectic mix of styles with a definitive foundation in that roots-rock country style of music known as Americana, they call it Mystic Americana. Songs transition gently from ecstatic dance beats to tearjerker ballads, from modern political laments to positive roots reggae, carrying the audience on a journey which changes, often with the band, from show to show.

Jeff Pevar

“The way a guy plays guitar is a combination of dexterity and taste and inventiveness and passion. Peev has all of those things. Pretty much any style he’s playing–the blues, rock ‘n’ roll, edge-of-jazz kind of stuff, he’s there. And besides being talented, he’s just a wonderful guy. He’s one of the nicest guys in the music business. To have that kind of talent and not be a jerk? It’s just insanely wonderful. He’ll be my friend all my life.” –David Crosby, 1999

Jeff Pevar is a guitarist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and vocalist who has recorded, performed and/or toured with some of the finest musicians in the music business including Crosby, Stills and Nash; Ray Charles; Donald Fagen (Steely Dan); James Taylor, Rickie Lee Jones, Marc Cohn, Joe Cocker, Kenny Loggins, Carly Simon, Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead) and many, many others.

Rock/Funk/Roots Music/Jam Band
New York, New York

Thursday, September 9th 8PM
Applegate Lodge
$10 Cover
Info – 541-761-9394

That’s not a trombone you’re hearing…
It’s a human voice. Former subway musician Lipbone Redding revs up the party and makes lots of sounds with only his lips. He not only imitates a trombone, he is an accomplished soloist, songwriter, guitarist and entertainer. He’s the Jazz, Blues, Jam and Soul version of a human beat-box … Make that a “Human Sweet Box.”
Inventive voicestrumentalist and Southern Gentleman, Lipbone Redding, creates original songs that effervesce with New Orleans swing, Memphis grooves and New York City style. Though his songs stand alone, his entire show is greased with uncanny riffs of vocal trumpeting booming mouth percussion, hilarious side moments and esoteric lyrics. Witty, soulful, and sincere, this free spirit has caught fire in Manhattan’s downtown scene and can be seen and heard regularly on Sunday afternoons at New York City’s most “see and be seen” French jazz and blues brunch, JULES (65 St. Marks) between 12noon and 3pm

Applegate Lodge
$7 Cover
Info – 541-761-9394

Christina is a multi-talented singer and songwriter with a rich history of musical experience. She began writing songs and playing guitar as a teenager, and soon became a staple performer in Southern California concert theater venues. Christina’s music can be described as a blend of folk, classical, rock, jazz and Celtic. Her compositions are a hybrid of her many influences, drawing upon those stylistic elements that will best tell the story in her lyrics, while creating a signature sound.  Christina has been described by her peers as a “Trobairitz” (female troubadour).
Christina’s latest release, “Oh Oregon, Songs of Oregon”, celebrates the history and beauty of the state in a collection of songs she has written over a 25 year span.  The CD features “Sunset Over Jacksonville”, a soft rock epic about the National Historic Landmark Oregon city and “City of Roses”, celebrating the magic of early-day Portland, featuring legendary jazz pianist, Patti Moran McCoy.  Monte Byrd weaves his magic on saxaphone on City of Roses as he has on many of Christina’s recordings and onstage.  Roman Morykit of Gypsy Soul graces the recording with guitar, fretless bass and Dobro on “Sunset Over Jacksonville”, “The Old Mckee Bridge” and soon to be released ”Time Standing Still” with Jim Sitter playing drums on “Sunset Over Jacksonville” and “City of Roses”.  Working with producer Sean McCoy,  Christina continues to enjoy the process of music creation especially the collaborative aspects with every player making a contribution to the finished piece.

Zepparella – four women intent on bringing alive the passion, the beauty, the intensity, and the spirit of Led Zeppelin.

Zepparella delivers an explosive, emotional musical journey. With reverence to the holy ground upon which they tread, the musicians are devoted to staying true to the songs while taking advantage of their own musical communication and carrying the audience away on the ride.

The musicians of Zepparella came together through a common passion for the music of Led Zeppelin. Armed with the desire to incorporate the vocabulary of their heroes into their own, they decided to dive into the music.

Nearly five years have passed, and Zepparella continues to develop. The musicianship grows as they dig deeper into the wealth of challenges, and the stage show gets ever more transcendent as the relationships between the players tighten. Anna Kristina (vocals), Gretchen Menn (guitar), Nila Minnerok (bass) and Clementine (drums) bond in a way that is palpable to the audience, and this connection gives them reign to explore their own improvised magic within the framework of Zeppelin’s mighty songs.

John Elliot and the Hereafter

Rock/Acoustic/Post Punk
Los Angles, California

John Elliott’s music has been called “tear at your heartstrings, folksy” and “a surreal and trippy cool kind of pop thing.” It has also been referred to as “Post-Seinfeld, Post 9/11 Eyebrow Rock.” Regarding Elliott’s lyrics, Chuck Schiele of The San Diego Troubadour says, “They get in, make their statement, kick you in the teeth, and get out before they start talking too much…And this lends to the urge of rolling any track to its beginning for another spin.”

Elliott’s catchy tunes, clear voice and chill-inducing melodies have been likened to a young Paul Simon, John Flansburgh and Ben Gibbard, as well as Gregory Page, Jason Mraz, Christopher Dale, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Schiele continues to speak about Elliott’s vocals as such: “…a lullaby of a voice that’s likeable and believable. There’s a stylistic melancholy tone and charisma in his voice…” Another independent review of one of Elliott’s albums reads, “The songwriting rivals any Radiohead/Coldplay hype the record labels could come up with. Who says folk music is dead…”

“One of the best kept secrets on the acoustic scene,” Elliott’s voice and lyrics – with a definite Americana beat – can also be heard on an episode of the CW’s “One Tree Hill”, Emmy Nominated “Grey’s Anatomy”, NPR (All Songs Considered/Open Mic), Neil Young’s “Living With War” website, radio stations all over the world, in cars, in backyards, on iPods and at campfires. His songs have been called, “…intimate, honest, ripe with observant detail and a reliable playfulness.”

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and producer, John Elliott, and his band, The Hereafter are launching a Pacific Northwest tour in support of the upcoming March 2011 release of their new album, “Backyards”. The Hereafter will be playing most of these shows with Seattle’s hometown hero on the Americana, roots, and folk music front, Jack Wilson.

Jack Wilson

Folk/ Rock
Austin Texas and Seattle Washington

Jack Wilson has shared stages with The Neville Brothers, Sera Cahoone, Patrice Pike, The Moondoggies, Damien Jurado, Elliott Brood, The Maldives, and The Weary Boys. Fans are enamored with Wilson’s sentimental and rocking approach to the narrative folk song tradition…Whether he’s playing solo or with a sizable band that includes horns (like on his latest release), Wilson sticks to what matters most to the song. He now divides his time between Austin and Seattle, and his music sounds about equal parts Texas and Washington.

Michelle Bellamy & Family

Folk/ Acoustic/Soul
Southern Oregon

Michelle was born and raised in Grants Pass, Oregon and has lived in Southern Oregon her entire life. Over the past few years she began to learn how to play the guitar and write songs. “I believe that music is the universal communication and it allows me to share my soul in a way that I never thought possible. The inspiration for my songs comes from my day to day experiences and interactions with others. My music evokes positivity, love, and a hope for a better future. I hope that my music can send a message of peace and harmony and help people to connect to their true selves.” Michelle Bellamy

Hot Club of Detroit
Gypsy Jazz
Detroit, Michigan

The family tree that traces its roots to the Quintette du Hot Club de France has sprouted countless branches across the globe in the seventy years since Django Reinhardt first jammed with Stephane Grappelli. It seems like a new city lays claim to its own Hot Club on a virtually daily basis, but the Hot Club of Detroit is undoubtedly the apple that has fallen farthest from that tree.

Unlike the instrumentation of original Paris-based quintet, comprising Reinhardt, violinist Stephane Grappelli, two rhythm guitarists, and a bassist, the current Hot Club of Detroit is made of guitarist Perri, accordionist Julien Labro, soprano and tenor saxophonist Carl Cafagna, rhythm guitarist Paul Brady and bassist Andrew Kratzat. The fibrous accordion tones of Labro, a native of Marseilles, France, links the Detroit quintet to the French musette style from which gypsy jazz partially sprung, while Cafagna’s robust saxophone work introduces bop and post-bop elements to gypsy jazz.

The Hot Club of Detroit ensemble has rapidly accumulated accolades and audiences over the past several years, including a first-place win in the 2004 Detroit International Jazz Festival competition and multiple Detroit Music Awards. Their 2006 self-titled debut, while slightly more traditional than later releases, established their broad-minded approach to the Django resurgence. Since that time, it’s become increasingly evident that their inspiration comes as much from the spirit of Reinhardt’s playing as by its much-copied sound. While they’ve maintained some recognizable elements – the absence of drums, the percussive “la pompe” rhythm guitar technique – the Motor City quintet apply those elements to a decidedly modern sound, refusing to be constrained by allegiance to some time-honored, purist ideal.
